Rolex
Oyster Perpetual "Ovetto"

In the world of watches, and especially of their collecting, there are nicknames capable of making every collector's ears prick up. These are often Italian terms coined by collectors from the Bel Paese in the years when it was Italy that dominated and directed the world market for timepieces: "Padellone", “Piccolino", "Ovetto" are just some of these nicknames.
This watch, a Rolex 6085, is an Ovettone, meaning a watch with a domed screw-down case back, reminiscent of an eggshell and of decidedly generous dimensions for the time: hence the origin of its iconic nickname.
Produced in 1951, the watch is in phenomenal condition: the galvanic black dial, the 36-millimetre case and the massive gold 'brick' bracelet are beautifully preserved, making this 6085 one of the best examples on the market.
